Summer Haze

from Songs II by Mike Bruno

/

about

grey moonlight, silver glow
I behold
light moves along the waters edge
where I wished upon a skipping stone
for you'd climb out of your foxhole

I stood and watched the water dance
I stirred a thought on my circumstance
and as the tide began to rise
I built a raft to stay afloat

the summer haze is taking hold
in truth the nights where I belong
where mirrored waters bedight
reflect the light behind the eyes
alligators down below
watch my oars move as I row
where mirrored waters bedight
reflecting lights

I drifted on around your moat
and I gathered vines to build a rope
measured castle towers tall
and searched for signs that you might know

grey moonlight, silver soul
I behold
light moves along the waters edge
where I wished upon a skipping stone
for you'd climb out of your foxhole

the summer haze is taking hold
in truth the nights where I belong
where mirrored waters bedight
reflecting light behind the eyes
alligators down below
watch my oars move as I row
where mirrored waters bedight
reflecting lights
